Designing A Kitchen
Now it’s time for the fun part of making decisions for the look and feel of the kitchen. We all have our long held ideas of the perfect kitchen but now is the time to do a bit of exploring and challenging those ideas. If there is someone else involved in the decisions of designing the kitchen then you definitely have to do some research to find out where your different ideas can fit together.
Co-ordinate your new kitchen with the main floor decor
If your kitchen is open to other areas of the home it is important to make sure the kitchen décor flows with the rest of the main floor. You want your living space to feel connected and a co-coordinated color scheme is a great way to accomplish this. I am not suggesting that everything has to be the same color; rather that the basic finishes are repeated. If you are designing a kitchen that is open plan consider the entire area as part of the overall design plan.
Define the look and feel of your new kitchen
Now it’s time to define the look and feel you want in your new kitchen. The best way to find out what you like in kitchen finishes is to look at pictures of kitchens. You can see right away which colors appeal to you and what gives you the look you are after. Most people just can’t visualize what certain finishes will look like as a final product so seeing pictures of kitchens gives you a good idea of what would work for you. Research is an important part of designing a kitchen.
Think ahead to make updating easy in the future
It may be fun to select today’s popular cabinet stain for your new kitchen, but how will it work with changes you might want to make in five years? If you decide to sell your home in the future plan a timeless look for the kitchen that will appeal to the most potential buyers. Keeping the high ticket items neutral when designing a kitchen allows you to make easy decorating changes.
