Ikea Kitchens
Fantastic kitchen on a small budget

Are you serious about a new kitchen? Do you wish you could afford the kitchen you really want? You might want to try what I did to get my dream kitchen.
As a kitchen designer I have met with thousands of homeowners who all want the same thing: a beautiful new kitchen that does not cost a lot. For new kitchen cabinets on a budget consider IKEA cabinets. I know, you might think IKEA kitchens are not great quality but that is far from the truth.
Years ago some people had the impression that IKEA sold cheap kitchen cabinets. If you think about the price, then IKEA kitchens would definitely be considered as inexpensive kitchen cabinets. But if you are referring to the quality I can tell you that they would hold their own against plenty of other kitchen cabinet styles.
The drawers have aluminum sides, the drawer bases are sturdy and their hanging system for the upper cabinets is genius. The best thing is that you can get many different kinds of organizers and accessories made to fit only the Ikea cabinets. This makes organizing a no brainer.

I have sold and installed many different kitchen products in my time and I can tell you that I am thrilled with my IKEA kitchen that I built and installed myself. To look at the finished product no one would say they look like cheap kitchen cabinets.
I found a great choice in kitchen cabinet styles and finishes from wood to painted cabinets. The interactive kitchen design tool made it easy to play around with the kitchen layout and cabinet plan. You can download the program at home and then go to the store and get help at IKEA to finalize it all.
Installing your IKEA kitchen cabinets will seem like a daunting task; however if you just do one step at a time you will end up with a beautiful new kitchen at a fraction of the cost of a custom kitchen. I paid around $3000 for the cabinets and then found a bargain granite counter and undermount sink for about $2500. So my entire new kitchen with granite counter and backsplash was under $6000. Of course you can use a laminate counter and save more, but you get the idea.
Some of the great things about the IKEA kitchen are how great the drawers are and the finish on my white cabinets is easy to wipe clean. It is a painted finish which is far better than the plastic foil (thermo foil) of some white cabinets. I would not consider these cheap kitchen cabinets, but rather good value for the money.
I just have one complaint about installing the kitchen: the instructions were terrible!
We wasted a lot of time trying to figure out what the pictures meant and took a lot of things apart after putting them together wrong. It all seemed obvious after the fact, but you should not have to waste so much time on a learning curve.
Although it is too late for me there is good news for you. I have since found a book that clearly explains with photos and hints how to install your IKEA kitchen. I wish I had this when I remodeled my kitchen; it would have saved me a lot of time and effort doing things over. Installing kitchen cabinets is not easy, but it is not difficult if you have patience. And it would have given me more confidence to get started.
If you are considering installing an IKEA kitchen, do yourself a favor and order this book first. Check out all the information he gives and it will show you all the tricks and tips to make it easier for you. I wish I had this when I did my kitchen.
